Advanced TMS Treatment
Accelerated TMS: the same results, in days.
An intensive TMS protocol that delivers a full course of treatment in about a week instead of six, for patients who need faster relief or can't commit to daily visits over six weeks.
Same TMS Technology, Compressed Schedule
How It Works
The same protocol, a faster timeline.
Accelerated TMS uses the same FDA-cleared technology as our standard TMS program, but compresses the schedule by delivering multiple sessions per day over a shorter span of days rather than one session per day over six weeks. The total amount of stimulation is comparable to a standard course.
This approach is best known through protocols like SAINT (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy), which use accelerated theta-burst stimulation. We tailor the exact schedule to what's appropriate for each patient.
01
Multiple Sessions a Day
Instead of one daily session, you'll complete several shorter sessions per day, spaced roughly an hour apart, at our office.
02
Completed in About a Week
A full course is typically finished over the course of about five consecutive days, rather than six weeks of daily visits.
03
No Sedation, No Downtime
As with standard TMS, there's no anesthesia and no recovery time. You can drive yourself home or back to work after each session.
Choosing an Option
Standard TMS or accelerated?
Both use the same underlying technology and are appropriate for treatment-resistant depression. The right choice depends on your schedule, how quickly you need relief, and what your provider recommends.
Standard TMS
- One session a day, five days a week
- Runs about six weeks, 36 sessions total
- Fits around a regular weekly routine
- Well established, widely covered by insurance
Accelerated TMS
- Multiple sessions a day, spaced about an hour apart
- Runs about five consecutive days
- Best for patients who need a faster course or can't spread treatment over six weeks
- Newer protocol — we'll confirm coverage with your plan before you begin
Who It's For
A faster option for the right patient.
Accelerated TMS is generally considered for adults with treatment-resistant depression who are also good candidates for standard TMS. It may be a better fit if:
You need faster relief than a six-week course allows
A daily six-week schedule isn't realistic for your work or travel
You've had a good response to standard TMS in the past
You and your provider agree a compressed course is appropriate
Insurance coverage for accelerated protocols varies by plan and is less standardized than for our six-week program. We'll verify your specific coverage and any prior authorization requirements before scheduling. Contact us with questions.
